Unless you are spiritually inclined, you must accept that human brains are incredibly complex machines- but not unknowable. We have completely mapped C. elegans so it must stand to reason that the human brain is mappable. The human mind is not perfect, evolution does not produce a perfect specimen- just the one that is most suited to it's environment at that time (appendicitis etc) So, when creating an artificial 'mind', do you think it is worthwhile to try and replicate the structure of our own brains, or create something new (which would be created for purpose rather than roughly honed as with evolution)?
